With very heavy hearts, we the girls of Mary Rose (nee Swineamer), announce the passing of our beautiful mom. Mary passed away on January 17th at the young age of 98 surrounded by her loving family at Maplestone Enhanced Care facility.
Mary is the only daughter of Charles and Stella Swinehammer. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles (Clayton Rose), an infant son Benjamin, her daughter Margaret (Midgie) Wiswell, and her brothers Charlie, David, Rupert, Lewis, Ken, George, and Harold. Also, her special friend Tommy McDonald.
Mary is survived by daughters Nancy (Wayne) Nordin, Dianne (Van) Case, Beatrice (Joey) Philips, Shirley (Neal) Humble, Amelia (Neil) MacDonald, and Tina (Doug) MacDonald.
She will be lovingly remembered by her 18 grandchildren, Kenny, Marm, Heidi, Van Jr., Greg, John, Florence, Kirk, Theresa, Amanda, Tamara, Ryan, Brad, Monica, Daniel, Angela, Christine, and Adam. Along with 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
It’s hard to put 98 years of memories into a few paragraphs, but if you knew Mary and her feisty personality, you’ll know what an amazing person was. She enjoyed spending time with her brothers, while sitting around a campfire, singing old songs, and drinking a cold beer. In her earlier days, she could often be seen at the Derby Tavern enjoying a good steak and spending time with friends. Mary had a way of making everyone feel welcome and could be counted on for a good chat and lots of laughs.
The family would like to extend a big thank you to the staff at Maplestone for their care & compassion throughout her stay.
To Hale Court, the love and care you have showed her over the years has meant so much. We know mom kept all of you on your toes with the stories she told, her singing, and of course her cussing (LOL). Mom sure was a handful at times! Thank you all very much for your kind words and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax on Wednesday, January 25th at 1:00pm. The service will be followed by burial at Camp Hill Cemetery in Halifax.
