Imrie, Pamela Anne – nee Dorsett age 79 after a short illness.
Pam was born in a Cardiff, South Wales, maternity home to Norman S. Dorsett and Violet Winifred nee Boobyer, grew up in the village of Gelligaer, Glamorgan where she attended primary school. She later attended Bargoed Grammar-Technical school nearby. Pam’s father, Norman, died of a heart infection at Sully Hospital when Pam was 14 years old and she determined to become a nurse. She began her training at 17 at Sully, completing her SRN at LLandough Hospital Cardiff in 1966. She met her future husband, David, while still a student nurse and they married after she completed her training in 1967. Their two children Samantha -1969, and Nicholas – 1971, were born in Sheffield UK and Halifax,Nova Scotia.
After marriage and children Pam took an interest the schools and organizations related to her family. While the children were learning at Halifax Ladies college(now Armbrae Academy) and Halifax Grammar school she became a member of the schools parents committees and was elected to chair both. When Sam and Nick joined Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers she joined the board and was elected the first female President – overseeing the acquisition of the ‘Police barn’ and renovations of the stables
For her own interest Pam was involved in the North End Community health Centre and the Metro Area Family Planning Association. She served on the boards of both and became president of MAFPA. She worked on a volunteer basis as the day-to –day director and created an emergency fund by donating to the organization the salary otherwise due to her. She also served on the board of the Children’s Aid society. During all of this she ran David’s office and organized the billing of patients, and provided hospitality for residents in training at the Dalhousie department of Anaesthesia. She also took the time to acquire a Diploma in Public Administration from Dalhousie.
All of Pam’s interest and dedication to the schools and clubs was motivated by her deep love for her children which was clear to both Sam and Nick who felt her love and support in everything they did. Pam’s excellence was acknowledged by a nomination as ‘Woman of the year’ though she was not the winner she clearly was seen by many of those who knew her as an outstanding person, She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by David, her husband of 57years, daughter Samantha(L A California), son Nicholas(Halifax), sister Ann(Malloy) UK.
