

Steed, Robert Allen (Bubby/Uncle Bubby/Bobby) 69 of Halifax NS passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 (11 days before his 70th Birthday) at the QE II Emergency Dept. Born in East Preston but raised in Africville NS, he was the son of the Late Leon Hilton and Emma Mae Steed (Carvery) and birth mother Muriel Slawter. Bubby was an employee of the Department of National Defense (DND) for 25 years and enjoyed retirement and life to the fullest. He was a kind, considerate, loving, gentle, friendly, God-fearing Christian man. You would often see him enjoying fellowship time in Scotia Square and Northwood Manor with friends from the Deaf Community and Ardith Pye (best friend). He also enjoyed spending special times with family and watching sports, wrestling and the sports channel with his nephews. He was well known throughout the Halifax and Dartmouth areas and Metro Transit. He was a member of Cornwallis Street Baptist Church and the Atlantic Ministry for the Deaf (AMD). He is survived by daughter-Rosalind, Halifax; sister-Brenda Steed-Ross (best friend and caregiver), Halifax; Brothers-Arnold Howe (Mae), Dartmouth; Gary Steed Linda), Halifax; biological siblings-sisters- Alberta Glasgow; Doris Brooks (Robert); Colleen Slawter (Wilber), Carol Anne Slawter, East Preston; Margaret Butt, Dartmouth; brothers-Clinton Slawter (Debbie); Stan Slawter (Roxanne), Dartmouth; John Slawter (Wendy), East Preston; Douglas Slawter (Nicole), Montreal; Charles Slawter, Ontario. 3 grandchildren, 30 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews; 2 great-great-nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home-2666 Windsor St. Hfx NS. with viewing on Sunday, March 28, 2011 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm. Home Going Service will be on Monday, March 21st at 11:00 am at Cornwallis Street Baptist Church, Cornwallis St. Hfx NS with a repast immediately following the service.
