After a life well lived, Rosaline Dyer (neé Brennan) passed away in the early hours of December 28th 2024, age 102 years. A beloved mother to Micheal (pre-deceased), Susan, Nana to Lorelei, mother- in law to Peter.
Born in Greenane, Keash, County Sligo, Ireland along with her 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Rosaline enjoyed a simple and loving childhood on the Brennan family farm. At age 18, she ventured to London, UK, to study and work as a nurse during WWII.
Rosaline married a Canadian soldier, Frederick Dyer, and moved to Ottawa, Canada. After the birth of her 2 children, the family moved to Montreal to continue her career as a nurse and later, as an x-ray technician. Always creative, Rosaline sewed and baked for family and friends. She especially enjoyed fashion and a good looking suit.
Greatness can often be defined by a persons impact on their family, friends, and community. Her faith and optimism helped her to weather life’s occasional storms, and to help others do the same. Her Irish humour and wit brought many a laugh to those around her. With a twinkle in her eye and a smile, Rosaline charmed those she met. Rosaline was passionate about family and friends; connecting by phone and video calls was a highlight of her day. She was very interested in family and local news.
She is mourned in Ireland by nephews Declan (Nadine), Micheal (Sharon), Paul(Aíne)), and her niece Noeleen (Seamus), and many grandnieces and nephews including Jenny (Nate and Finn). She will be missed by Bridget-Mary and family. Rosaline is mourned by her UK family: Phyllis (John), Neil (Bev), and Lorraine (Aiden); and her New Zealand family: Paul, Trevor (living in Canada), Donna and Micheal (pre-deceased). She is also survived by extended family in the USA. Special mention to the Royea family in Canada, with whom Rosaline and family shared a life-long friendship.
In accordance with Rosaline’s wishes, cremation has occurred. A service will be held January 6th 2025 at 11am at the Cruikshank Funeral Home on 2666 Windsor Street in Halifax reception to follow.
