Shirley Jane Grandy

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Jane Grandy (Sitland) of Halifax NS, announce her sudden passing on October 11th, 2023, at the QEII hospital. Born on November 18th, 1947, in Halifax. Shirley is predeceased by her parents George and Lizzie Sitland, her sister Sandra and brother Kenny.

First and foremost Shirley loved her family deeply. She always put her family first and wanted them to be happy and thrive. Shirley’s commitment to others led to the opening of one of the first community blood collection units in Halifax, which she ran for over 30 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends at the cottage, swimming in the lake and going for paddles in the canoe. She had a love of art, as a painter and crafter, and had a particular fondness for collecting folk art. Shirley loved the challenge of completing the newspapers daily word puzzles and would not rest until the cryptogram was solved.

She leaves behind her husband of 53 years Glenn. She will always be loved and missed by her son Scott (Heather) and daughter Jackie (Glen), granddaughters Olivia and Hilary and grand dog Skipper.

At her request a celebration of life will take place at her beloved cottage on Rhyno Lake at a later date.
