Thomas Beck Davis

The Honorable Thomas Beck Davis (Tom) age 84, of Halifax Nova Scotia passed away after a brief illness on May 27, 2017. Tom was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on September 11, 1932. He graduated from Moncton High School, received an Engineering Diploma from Saint Francis Xavier University and a law degree from Dalhousie University. Tom served in the Canadian Military Service while completing his college education. Tom practiced law in Nova Scotia for twenty years, and was then appointed as a Territorial Court Judge of the Northwest Territories, residing in Yellowknife for 15 years. Upon retirement, they moved back to Halifax. Tom served as a two term Alderman on the Dartmouth City Council, was President of the Wentworth Valley Ski Club, and volunteered on the Board of Directors of Neptune Theater, the Provincial Council of the Boy Scouts, and the United Appeal. Tom married Maureen Browne on August 30 1958, and they shared 58 wonderful years together. The most important thing to Tom was his family. He was a wonderful husband and Father, and adored his grandchildren. Tom is survived by Maureen, his daughter Margot Dietrich (Tim) of Halifax, Dara Chengappa (Roy) of Pittsburgh PA, and Tom (Meredith) of Guilford CT, and his eight grandchildren – Peter, Robert and Warren Dietrich, Leela and Lara Chengappa, and Addie, Hollise and Dara Davis, his sister Elinor (Dysart/Creaghan), and many nieces and nephews. Tom is predeceased by his brothers John and Darrel Davis, and his sisters Nancy Humphrey and Faith Richard. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 31 at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Windsor St, Halifax. A private family funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday June 1 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
