Age 99 passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 6, 2018 at the Halifax Infirmary.
Born September 19, 1918 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Augustine (Gus) and Mary (Daisy) Smith. Vivian was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph Alyre (Bud); sister, Rose; brother, Frank; and siblings in infancy, Donald and Anne Marie.
She is survived by son, David (Jeannette) Melanson; daughter, Margaret Melanson; son, Philip (Yvonne Beverly) Melanson; and brother, Jimmie (Anne) Smith; grandchildren, Lisa Melanson (Matthew); Jason Forrest; Christopher Melanson; Colette (Sean) Ennis; Danielle (Jason) Bond; Giselle (Jon) Tattrie; and great-grandchildren, Gavin, Hayden, Monica, Lauren, Keaton, Xavier and Roslyn.
Vivian will be remembered for her warmth, strength, intelligence, and faith. She lived independently and was blessed with good mental and physical health into her 100th year, enjoying the constant contact of her devoted children and watching her family grow.
She never missed an opportunity to send a hand-written note to each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren individually on birthdays, holidays, special occasions – or even no occasion. Vivian enjoyed reading, bingo, socializing with her friends on Ford Street, and was cheerful, active and generous throughout her entire life.
There will be a funeral mass on Friday, February 9 at Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata Parish, Halifax at 11:00 AM with reception to follow in the church hall. Donations may be given to the charity of your choice. We wish Vivian a peaceful and well-deserved rest with God in honour of her incredible life.
