

Arlene M. Smith, age 77, died on March 18, 2014 at Hospice of Hamilton. Arlene was born November 3, 1936 in Hamilton, Ohio to Oscar and Freda (Kieser) Schaible. Mrs. Smith was from a pioneering family to this area except during World War II when she resided in Pasadena, Texas for 5 years with her family. Arlene attended the Hamilton Public Schools graduating from Hamilton High School in 1955. She attended a year of nursing school at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. She married Frederick D. Smith on November 29, 1958 and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. They have one daughter, Cynthia Lynn Smith. Mrs. Smith's greatest joy was her family, extended family, and close friends she felt so blest to have. She was employed by the Hamilton Public Schools where she worked for 25 years in the attendance office at Hamilton High School. She retired on January 1, 2000. She was an active member of First St. John United Church of Christ for a number of years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, worked with the youth fellowship, served on consistory and was a member of the Just Friends group. In August, 2010 she and her husband joined the Grace United Methodist Church where she attended regularly. She is survived by her husband Fred; daughter Cynthia Smith; granddaughter Kirsten; sister-in-law Joyce Smith; niece Linda Zimov; nephew David Smith; cousin Emmy and Katie Selby. She was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Jr.; her parents and brother-in-law, Robert L. Smith.
