Elaine Leigh Spangler

Elaine was born on April 29, 1947, the daughter of Warren Hoel and Christine (Mullins) Hoel at Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio.

Elaine graduated from Preble Shawnee High School in 1965 and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in 1969. She met and married Joseph Spangler, also a graduate of Miami University.

Elaine lived in the Middle East for several years before settling in Las Vegas, Nevada. She travelled to Israel, Europe and much of the southwestern United States. Elaine worked at Yucca Mountains and DRI in records before retiring.

Elaine was a proud member of Mensa, the Scorpio Group, and participated in local Renaissance Fairs.

After retiring she spent much time with family and friends.

Elaine passed in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 20, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents and Joseph Spangler. She is survived by her sisters Linda (Hoel) Head and Joanie (Hoel) Mitchell, brothers Glenn Hoel and Warren Alan Hoel, Stepson J.J. Bernardo, “godson” Jason Lockard and several nieces, nephews and cousins

Elaine loved life and lived it to the fullest with family and friends. She will be missed..

Elaine’s remains will be interred in the mausoleum at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Ohio with Joe Spangler’s remains. This will be done on Saturday January 24 at 11 a.m.. followed by sharing from family and friends.
