Richard "Dick" Carpenter, age 81 of Hamilton, passed away at his residence on Thursday, December 18, 2014. He was born in Hamilton on July 5, 1933 to Glenn and Mabel (Whitlock) Carpenter. Richard was employed at the Hamilton Police Department for 27 years, and retired as a Captain in 1985. In 1989 he joined the Butler County Sheriff's Department, and served for seven years. He was a member of the Hamilton Christian Center. He was a member of the FOP Lodge #38.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca Carpenter; his children, James Carpenter

Kenneth (Debbie) Chaney, Ronald James (Robyne) Chaney, Richie Carpenter, Jamie Gabbard; grandchildren, Brett (Jennifer) Chaney, Brooke (Craig) Clark, Alexus Carpenter, Chrissy Chaney and Rebecca (Robert) Wilson; and Timmy (Lindsay) Carpenter; and 13 great-grandchildren; and his favorite friend Max, his dog. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Daniel Carpenter.
