

Robert John Brecht age 97, formerly of Hamilton, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at his residence in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Hamilton on November 18, 1917, the son of John M. and Myrtle (Means) Brecht. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Verna Dudley on May 25, 1940 in Hamilton and she preceded him in death. He had been employed at Diebold Safe Co., (formerly Herring-Hall- Marvin Safe Co.) for 43 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, enjoyed sports, played on the company soft ball team, was an avid bridge player and belonged to several card clubs. He had worked on the Manhattan Project (1st Atomic Bomb) for the U. S. Government. He is survived by his daughter JoAnn (Ben) Russell, New Smyrna Beach, Florida; his son, John (Cheryl) Brecht, West Chester; six grandchildren, Mark Russell, Kim Jacobs, Jason Brecht, John Z. Brecht, Laura Brecht and Caitlin Brecht, five great grandchildren, Christine Jacobs, Anna Brecht, Robert Brecht, Colton Brecht and Isaac Brecht and great, great granddaughter, Madelyn Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, George and Paul Brecht, sister, Myrtle Fisher and an infant son, James. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd. with Pastor Kevin Jud officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
