Ruby C. Smith

Ruby C. Smith age 88, died on January 1, 2017 at Hospice of Cincinnati, Hamilton Inpatient Care Center, after a brief illness. She was born in Hamilton on May 21, 1928, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1946 and married her sweetheart, Robert L. Smith, on February 8, 1947. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and caring for her family was her greatest source of joy. A devout Christian, she was a lifelong member and very active in the congregation of the West Side Baptist Church. Ruby worked at Fisher Body in the early years of her marriage, but she was best known by many as the receptionist at the Beckett Paper Company where she worked for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, on August 24, 2016. Bob and Ruby enjoyed their final years at Berkeley Square Retirement Community, Hamilton. She was also preceded in death by her parents Doyle and Martha Chadwell, her twin sister Ruth Chadwell, and her brothers Paul, Wilber and Wallace Chadwell. She leaves her daughter, Julie Ann Smith Rentschler and her husband Thomas B. Rentschler, Jr., Hamilton, OH, and her three grandchildren, Thomas B. Rentschler III, Cincinnati, OH, Abigail E. Rentschler, Denver, CO, and Anna B. Rentschler, Hamilton, OH. She is also survived by her sister Loretta McMahan and her husband Thom, brother Charles Chadwell and his wife Patty, and sister Judith Chadwell, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N.W. Washington Blvd., with Dr. John H. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers at Berkeley Square and Hospice of Cincinnati.
