Shirley (nee Doherty) Wade

Shirley (nee Doherty) Wade, beloved wife of 65 years of George F. Wade, went to be with the Lord May 7, 2016. Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1923, she moved to Hamilton, Ohio in 1953 with George and quickly became a fixture in the community. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years, active in Sunday school, missionary support and countless children’s charity efforts. Shirley loved all children and helped grade-schoolers learn to read at Harrison Elementary School well into her 80’s. Known for a quick wit and being a practical joker, she loved a good laugh and was able to add a touch of humor to any situation. Second only to her love of a laugh was her love of nature, especially birds, and she would always marvel at God’s wondrous creations. Two sisters preceded Shirley in death, Thelma Schwenger and Laverne McMahon. She is survived by her children Deborah Hassenzahl (John), Kevin Wade (Andrea) and Janice Griffin (Clark), her cherished grandchildren Kevin Wade Jr., Jenna Griffin and Sarah Griffin, and her beloved friend Katie Hoskins. The funeral will be at First Baptist Church, 1501 Pyramid Hill Blvd., Hamilton, Ohio on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 12pm with visitation two hours prior to the service.
