Alma Cooke

1911 – 2017

Passed away on Tuesday October 17, 2017 at the Chester Village Long-Term Care Facility at the age of 106. Alma was the devoted wife of the late Alfred Walter Cooke for 69 years. The cherished mother of Marilyn Joyce Waller and Walter John Cooke, beloved Nana of Shannon Waller (Bruce Green) and Julia Waller (James Lewis). Doting Great Nana of Madison and Charlotte Green and Vivienne Lewis. Alma will be especially missed by her niece, Marjorie Anderson, her cousin, Anita Stacy, and many friends. A special thank you to the entire 4th floor staff of Amethyst House at Chester Village for their patient and extraordinary care of Alma that supported her comfort in her final days.

Alma’s Scottish heritage showed in her fierce and tireless support of her family, friends and local church. A brilliant baker, she was famous for her preserves, apple pies, butter tarts, cookies, banana bread, and sour cream coffee cake. During retirement years, she enjoyed summer cottage life at Halls Lake in the Haliburton Highlands and their home in St. Petersburg, Florida during the winter.

Family and friends will be received for visitation at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME, 615 Main Street East (east of Sanford), Hamilton Ontario, on Sunday October 22, 2017 from 1– 3PM with the Funeral Service immediately following at 3PM in the Marlatt Memorial Chapel.
