

With his family surrounding him, Andy passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital on September 23, 2019 at the age of 28 years after a courageous lifelong battle with brain cancer He is the beloved son of Bill and Janice Brooks, and cherished brother of Hannah and Greer. He is predeceased by his constant companion and guide dog, Boston.
An avid cyclist, Andy cycled and fundraised in the first Sears National Kids Cancer Ride travelling from Vancouver to Halifax. To support this fundraising, he inaugurated the Inside Ride events at his high school. This event continues to raise money for childhood cancer 12 years later. Since then, he graduated from Mohawk College and worked at Fortinos Dundurn Plaza. He loved his job and his coworkers.
In his 28 years, Andy took in a century’s worth of experiences and love. He lived every day with compassion, generosity and optimism. He had a positive impact on everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Torres-Trejo and Michelle from Juravinski Cancer Centre and Dr. Bev Hattersley and the team at St Peter’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate and exemplary care.
A visitation will be held Friday, September 27th from 5-8pm at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave East, Hamilton and on Saturday, September 28th from 10-11am at Church of the Ascension (64 Forrest Ave at John St, Hamilton). Funeral and reception will follow at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to a memorial scholarship created by his family. These funds will help to support future training for students with special needs from Andy’s high school, White Oaks Secondary School in Oakville.
