

Survived by his loving wife Helen and her children Vance Merrill (Jennifer), Darlene McDermott and his grandchildren Evan and Alexa McDermott. Also survived by his sister-in-law Sandy MacMillan and his nieces Kellye and Jamie. Predeceased by his parents David and Rhoda MacMillan of Sault Ste. Marie and his brother Bordie MacMillan.
Al was born in Sudbury and grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, then finally settled in Hamilton where he joined the UA Local 67 Pipefitters Union. He was a longstanding member of the Westmount and Ionic Masonic Lodges. Al also ran a successful photography studio, specializing in weddings and fashion shows. With a passion for sailing, Helen and Al took many vacations together, always near the water.
The family wishes to thank the first floor staff at the Arbour Creek Care Centre for their gentle and compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be taking place at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton on Sunday, March 30, 2025 from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a memorial donation in Al's memory, can do so with the Alzheimer's Society or the Salvation Army.
