Dane Pocrnic

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Dane Pocrnić, who left us on October 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Born in Janjačka Kosa, Lika, Croatia, on February 16, 1933, Dane lived a life defined by strength, devotion, and love for family.

Beloved husband of Ana (Rukavina) for 61 wonderful years. Proud and cherished father of Julijana (Edward), Steve, and Nick (Amy). Adored Dida to his beloved grandchildren—his "Didino Zlato"—David, Neven, Mia, and Adam. Dear brother of Kate (late Tomo Orešković), and brother-in-law of Mande Pocrnic (late Luka), Marica Rukavina (late Ivan), Josip (Kate) Rukavina of British Columbia, and Milan (Mića) Pocrnić (late Anka) of Zagreb. Dane will be deeply missed by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends in both Canada and Croatia.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care Outreach Team, especially Nurse Jason, for their exceptional compassion and care during Tata’s final days.

Visitation will be held at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton, on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 4:00–8:00 p.m., with prayers at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Parish, 200 Mount Albion Road, Hamilton on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Cemetery, 681 Mud St E, Stoney Creek.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dane’s memory to Holy Cross Croatian Parish (Hamilton), Crkva Svetog Križa (Perušić, Croatia), or a charity of your own choice.
