Darryl Keith De Kock

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Darryl de Kock, on October 26, 2020 at the age of 65.
Darryl was born on October 15th, 1955 in Cape Town, South Africa. He was a gifted teacher who embraced his calling with passion and enthusiasm. He worked tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of his students and has, throughout his career, left an indelible mark on many young minds across three continents.
He was a man of deep faith which sustained him through some of the challenging times in his life. He was also a loving and caring husband, father, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle and friend who believed that life was meant to be lived to the fullest as witnessed by his teaching stints in Asia and his frequent travels across the globe.
Darryl will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 24 years, Rochelle, his children, Hayley (Mark), Megan (Peter), Leigh-Ann (Sam) and Ashley and his seven grandchildren, Marissa, Savannah, Cecilia, Matthew, Mackenzie, Dylan and Luca.
He will also be greatly missed by his siblings Kevin (Trina), Gary (Paula), Ingrid (Mark), Lynton (Sharon), Rick (Jill) and many nephews, nieces, cousins, family members, and friends around the world.
Darryl was predeceased by his parents William (Sonny) and Margaret; and niece, Carrie-Ann.

Our sincere condolences to you all on the passing of Darryl. We remember the first year that we met Darryl at People's and sharing our mutual love for Rugby cricket and food hehe. Darryl was quiet yet friendly, always with a smile and his quick wit. He will be missed by many people in so many places. He lived like an international citizen and now has received his "permanent residence permit" in heaven :). Away from the body and with the Lord. Darryl, it was with great sadness that I learnt of your sudden passing, just a few days after I had wished you on your birthday.
I am honoured to say that I had known you for most of my life, from our beginnings together at primary school (1962) through to completing high school at Sinton (1973), save for 3 years when I attended Spes Bona.
Though we were always separated by thousands of kilometres we kept our friendship alive through social media, something we would not have dreamt possible during our school years.
Our ties were further strengthened when your sister Ingrid and my sister Maggie became besties, with Maggie telling me how Big Brother Darryl would keep them in check when she visited Ingrid. This, she did stress, was always done in the kind gentle manner, for which you were known.
To your wife Rochelle, your children, grandchildren, and all your extended family and friends, I express my sincere condolences with your sudden passing and thank ya’ll for sharing Darryl with our school friendship circle.
Mate I will miss our social media banter and your good humour. May you be granted the eternal rest that you deserve. Your race on earth is run and I look forward to being reunited with you in eternity.

It was with great sadness when I received the news of Darryl"s passing.

"Whatttt? No waayyy" were the words that I uttered when I was reading the comments on Rochelle's profile picture on FB. My son ( my son was Daryl's student in China) heard me say it out loud and asked; he said, Mum Double check it with Mrs. De Kock, that is not true! I quickly messaged Rochelle and confirmed! Tears were running down my eyes and my son was teary eyed. We begun reminiscing the memories we shared in China.
Daryl is a brilliant man of God. He is a passionate and dedicated teacher. He is well knowledgeable in his line of work. He loves his students so much that he challenges them to do better and better everyday. He will always be remembered. Rest in Peace Daryl.
To Daryl's loving wife Rochelle and his children, we pray for comfort at this time of grief. May the good Lord be with you all.

My condolences to you, Rochelle, and to the family that Darryl loved so deeply, and spoke of so often. I had the privilege of teaching with Darryl for a number of years in the English department at Barton Secondary School. I can still remember walking by his classroom as he read Macbeth’s famous lines aloud in his unforgettable South African accent. Such a lovely and literate man! I’m so glad he took the opportunity to travel the world, to have so many adventures, and to touch so many lives.

I too was at school with Darryl at Alexander Sinton. We reconnected again after many years on FB a few years ago. Two years back when I was in Bangkok for a conference, we had planned to get together but then something came up for him and it never materialized. His sad passing has reminded me how fragile life is and that we have no guarantees of tomorrow. My condolences to Rochelle and the family. May you know the Lord’s comfort. My wife Carol and I were in his class at Sinton and I remember him excelling in English. An incident between a teacher and Darryl still makes me chuckle to myself. We continued our friendship after School and Darryl, Clarence and I played squash together. The last time I saw him was shortly before he emigrated to Canada and I was visiting Cape Town, after a business trip to Hong Kong. It was especially good to see him after several years.

I remember Daryl who loves the Lord and who loves his wife Rochelle. On Sundays service at ECB, I sometimes sits next to them in the church or on the other side of the aisles and he has the warm brotherly love and joy in him.
Rochelle who co- led our LIFE GROUP in ECB, your sisters in Christ loves you, praying for you and my family pray for God’s greatness and compassionate heart be with you and your family.

Darryl was a man after God’s own heart - a brother that came alongside many others - sharing faith, life and laughter. His Christ focused encouragement was always appreciated, especially through support of our LIFE group fellowship, ECB’s Men’s Ministry and Fellowship of Christian Men (FCM).

I'm Mimi and I was one of Mr. Darryl's student from ICS. You may not remember, but I was also in a class you substituted for before a few years ago. I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry for your loss.
