Mr.Leslie was such a sweet, kind and caring teacher.  He was adored by many students, even by those who did not take his language classes at S.W.C.  I am fortunate to have had this great French teacher, who was funny, passionate, encouraging and interesting, which made my love for French even stronger.  You will be missed Mr.Leslie.

We were long time friends of the Leslie family sitting together in the upstairs pew at the Ascension since the seventies.  
We have only just found out about David's passing as mom (Pearley) remains hospitalized since May 2017 so were were unaware of his condition.  David was a very kind and gentle soul who was always happy and ready to chat and share a joke, so much like his father.  The loss will be evident when mom returns to Church.
Our deepest sympathies to his family, may he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Dave's family.  I knew Dave and his sister Nancy from the Church of the Ascension.  Dave was a wonderful, warm person whom I ran into often in Hamilton.  He was always glad to chat and catch up.  Rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Leslie's family.  I met Mr. Leslie as a young student in High School at Sir Winston Churchill.  He was a very positive role model, very encouraging and supportive.  He was a person whom you could tell loved their job and the impact he made on people's lives was immeasurable.

I was a member of the Church of the Ascension for many years and remember David very well.  His mother Betty was a wonderful baker.  I remember David insisting she add a recipe or two to the Ascension Cookbook.  I still have it.  His father always had a wink and a smile for me.  David was a warm and thoughtful man who always took the time to say hello.  My condolences to Nancy.

Mr. Leslie I will miss our walks around mountain plaza mall in the mornings when I finished work, you were a great teacher when I had you for high school French. Will never forget when you lost my exam for grade 11 French and we joked about it for years laters. you will be miss by many, until we meet again my friend R.I.P fly free and I will continue to do my laps of the plaza in memory of you xo


Mr. Leslie was a wonderful person! He was very involved with the Delta high school band when I attended from 1977-1981. Thank you Mr. Leslie for making my Delta days so much fun! My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

I took French with Mr. Leslie for four years at Churchill, as well as a year of German, and enjoyed every minute of those classes. He had the gift of making languages both meaningful and fun for everyone, regardless of aptitude. I don't know one student who wasn't fond of him. I will miss him very much. Merci, Sir.

Such an amazing teacher and man.  Glad I had the opportunity to know him.  He will be missed.

Farewell my friend.  In recent weeks, together, we spoke of fond memories as long-time friends and teaching colleagues.  Those memories are forever.  Thank you for your empathy, sense of humour and friendship.  You indeed helped to make a difference in the lives of all that knew you.


Mr Leslie was truly one of a kind and great man.  May he Rest In Peace and his family remember all the good he did.

Mr. Leslie, you were my favourite teacher! You were my homeroom teacher in grade 9. You taught me French and German. You knew I was going to live in France as a jeune fille Au Paire. You used to say "Ok kids!" Always enjoyed your enthusiasm.

Dave Leslie was a lovely man. I never had him as a classroom teacher, but he supervised the student council at Delta when I was there. Reconnected at the 75th Anniversary and we remembered one another 25 years later. What a dear sweet man, he will be sorely missed. Deb Brunette

David was a family friend (my Aunt is Mary Halayko) but was also my french and german teacher for several years at Delta Secondary. He was one of the best teachers there. He was so passionate about teaching and understood how to engage teens and made learning fun. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Mr Leslie;  You were my teacher at Delta Secondary School where I took your German Class for 3 years and also I had you for one year of French.  I remember well your enthusiasm for what you taught; it was an inspiration to your students, especially me.  I loved hearing of your adventures abroad which aspired me to go to Europe too someday.
