Florentina "Flora" Romaker

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of the matriarch of our family, Flora, in her 86th year. Mother of Rudy and Ann, Phil and Eileen, and Al. Loving Oma of Carson and Candice, Lindsay and Dave, Jordan, Curtis, Morgan and Isaac. Great Grandmother to Allie, Braiden, and new born Bailee. Missed greatly and predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Philipp. Also predeceased by her parents and 3 brothers in Germany. Survived by 2 brothers, 2 sisters, many nieces and nephews in Germany, and also many nieces and nephews in the Niagara Peninsula. Mom was a long time member of St. Boniface German Roman Catholic Church and participated in their many church dances and functions. She loved her flowers and had a fantastic green thumb. That seemed only appropriate as her name meant “flower”. She believed in sending a card for every occasion, some even months ahead of time. Oma adored her grandchildren and her great grandchildren and marvelled at them. They miss her terribly. Tante Flora was the last survivor of the elders whom came to Canada, starting in 1951. Mom was very proud of her “Dree Boyz” and introduced them to all, even strangers. She provided us with many funny incidents that we got to share with our family and friends. She resided at Westmount Terrace Residence for the last 2 years and was known for her “fashion sense” and her extended independent shopping excursions that extended right up until store closing time. A heartfelt thank you to the staff there for providing a safe and friendly environment for her. Also, a sincere thank you to the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital, especially Dr. Wald, Dr. Mukharja, and the nurses and staff of the 8th Floor South Wing. The care and comfort that you provided to mom was outstanding and greatly appreciated by all of us. Family will receive friends at the CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME (322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton) on Thursday, September 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, September 9th at 11 a.m. in the Chapel. Interment at Mount Hamilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Flora was a natural red head all her life and had a strong and independent spirit. She will be missed!
