Our Dad was a History teacher, football coach, McMaster football Marauder, an intellectual, and a very proud grampa and great-grampa. Dad set high standards for himself and those around him. He was never a shrinking violet and loved nothing more than a spirited debate. God help you if you came unprepared to his classroom or our dinner table. Dad's lifetime passion was public education, which he firmly believed was society's great equalizer. His teaching and coaching career spanned four decades including stints at Central, Hamilton Collegiate Institute (HCI), Westmount Secondary School and The College of Wooster, Ohio, culminating as a Superintendent of Education with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board.
Dr. Cooke won numerous teaching awards and his teams won many championships. But the real measure of his leadership in education is the many testimonials received this week from former students and athletes of the life changing impact he had on their futures.
Frank Cooke was predeceased by his father Frank Sr., mother Dorothy, and late wife, Joyce. Frank is survived by his brother Richard (Joan), and his children Kevin (Catherine), Terry (Maureen Wilson), Kelly Lewis (Peter Reilly), and Alison (David Brown). He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren Rachel Antonacci (Guy), Kezia DiDonato (David), Jacob Lewis (Claire), Taylor Cooke-Brown, Lane O'Hara Cooke, Frances Cooke, and Wilson Cooke; and three great-grandchildren Gabriella and Gaetano Antonacci, and Sophia DiDonato; and nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by his special friend Ann Wingfield.
We are grateful for the compassionate care of Dad provided by the medical team at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and Oncology Day Services Unit. Due to Covid, a Celebration of Life will be postponed until sometime in the future when friends and family can gather safely.
Always on our minds, forever in our hearts.
