Giuseppe Rocci

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our most loving, selfless, and gentle husband, father and Nonno, Giuseppe Rocci. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife and soulmate Elisabetta of 67 years, and his adoring children Paul and Angela, Claudio and Anna. Nonno will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his greatest joys, his grandchildren Joshua and Victoria, Elisa, Serina, Alexandra, and Matthew. Predeceased by his parents Felice and Fioralba Rocci. Cherished brother of Anna and the late Ercole Flammini, the late Franco and the late Lucia Rocci, the late Cesare and the late Ennia Rocci, and the late Amalia and the late Ermando DeIuliis. Dear brother-in-law of the late Nicola and the late Antonietta DeIuliis, the late Michelina and the late Serafino Di Donato of Abruzzo Italy, and the late Giovanni and Vanda DeIuliis. He will be sadly missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Canada and Italy. Giuseppe, known to friends and family as Peppino, left Castelbasso, Abruzzo, Italy for a better life in Hamilton. Giuseppe secured employment at Stelco and worked tirelessly to bring Elisabetta over and start a new life in Canada. At the same time, he worked with great pride as a cement finisher at Cardi Construction. Their home in Rosedale became a place where their families from Italy would stay while getting settled in Canada. Giuseppe was known for his calm and gentle demeanour, a love of wine and pasta, a green thumb in his bountiful garden and his ability to fix anything in his basement workshop. Giuseppe was incredibly generous, selfless and a good man to his family and others. His passion was having his family over to share a meal, an espresso and always a glass or two of wine. Visitation will take place at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East on Tuesday, February 6th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm with Vigil Prayers at 3:30 pm. Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 165 Prospect Street North, on Wednesday, February 7th at 10 am. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In Giuseppe’s memory, a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family in lieu of flowers.
