

Peacefully passed away at the Atrium Villa after a brief decline in health, on Wednesday, November 17th, 2010 in his 96th year. Loving father of Catherine Matteson (Tom Cruz) and Richard (Barbara). Beloved companion of Mary Droski for 40 years. Will be remembered with joy by grandchildren Kevin Matteson (Erin), Matthew Skinner (Diana) & Leanne Ferris (Chris) and great grandchildren, Elliot, Judah & Allegra Skinner. Predeceased by his wife Edna (nee Procter) 1957, parents Albert & Alice and brothers George & Walter. Member of the CYMAC (Centenary Young Men’s Athletic Club). Served with the RCAF, 408 Squadron, as Navigator on the Halifax during World War II. Served Hamilton and area in the Optical Profession for over 60 years, founded Skinner Opticians in 1949. Led a lifetime of service to others as a devoted member of Ryerson United Church Hamilton, supporting the 10th Hamilton Scouting Group, and as the inaugural Venturer Advisor, Past President of the Optimist Club of Hamilton, Past Master of The Lodge of Strict Observance #27 AF & AM G.R.C., member of Harmony Lodge #57 G.R.C., Binbrook Chapter #117 O.E.S., Hamilton Chapter R.A.M. #175 G.R.C. & Rameses Shriners. Past Commander-in-Chief Moore Sovereign Consistory, Honorary Inspector-General Supreme Council 33° Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Canada and member Royal Order of Scotland. Member of Central Public School Old Boys Association and an Honorary Lifetime Member (85 years) of the Downtown Hamilton YMCA, active weekly until October. Enjoyed an active and healthy life of basketball, wrestling, dancing, tennis, weightlifting and of course story telling. Known for his ready smile, infectious laugh, and his advice to “never lose your sense of humour”.
