After several years of failing health, Irene’s hard-fought battle is over, leaving her beloved husband Brian, and her loving sons Scott (Christine) and Glenn (Tracy) to mourn her loss. Irene will be greatly missed by her grandsons, Darroch (Elly), Glenn (Rae Lee Rose), Zachary (Mia) and Riley (Fatima). She was so proud of their accomplishments. She was thrilled to become a great grandmother to Darroch and Elly’s children George and Sophie Grace. Irene will also be greatly missed by her sister Rita Sturrock, John and Donna Harrop and their families, and by her beloved dog Maggie May and great grand puppy Bo. Irene was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mary Darroch and her older sister May with whom she immigrated to Canada from Glasgow Scotland. Irene enjoyed a happy childhood and met the love of her life Brian at Hill Park High School. Through 73 years of life, Irene and Brian’s love story has endured. She leaves all who knew her with a legacy of love, loyalty and great kindness. To know her was to be drawn to her effervescent personality and contagious laughter. Irene was a thoughtful and welcoming hostess and always the life of the party. She was a voracious reader, a skillful decorator, a loyal friend, and just loved a good conspiracy theory or alien story. The family is grateful for the support of her many caregivers, especially Robin Labelle who attended to Irene with dignity and great compassion. In line with Irene’s wishes she has been cremated and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
