Im so sad to hear of her passing. I grew up living next door to Irene and I grew incredibly close with her and her family. I eventually adopted her as my own Nanny. I remember her amazing cooking and her love for bingo. It has been many years since I last saw Irene, but I think of her often. She was such a supportive person and Im so grateful for her presence in my life. I'm sending my deepest condolences to her family. Xo

Mom’s standard were high, doing anything with her, you had to be all in. Just when I thought it looked great, job done, she would see where it could be better, and she was right, but I would be so proud of the end result. No half ass with her!!
My funniest memory with mom was driving to the Bingo hall with my mom and my nanny sitting between her legs in the Fiero. Then having to kick Nanny out of the car because the police were circling us.We laughed so hard, kicking a poor old lady out of the car. 
She always treated us fairly, who ever was in need, got what they needed.

I don't know how I could begin to narrow down a favourite memory. Was it when I would come home from school and Nanny and Grandma Betty would be floating around the pool, happy as can be? (I never could understand that when I was younger - now I definitely see the appeal of floating in the sun all day).  Was it when we would take her to the Black Forest Inn and a Theatre Aquarius show as a holiday tradition? Or maybe it was when I would visit Nanny and we would walk (what felt like) 100 km to The Barn for groceries.  My most recent favourite memory is bringing Archie to meet her, and the joy and love she expressed when cuddling him - even when he kept trying to eat her shiny bracelets. 
Nanny was the matriarch of the Hogan Clan,  the steadfast symbol of a hard working single mother. She embodied strength, self discipline, perseverance. While she will be greatly missed, the legacy of Irene Hogan will never be forgotten. 

Dearest Nanny,    
You have now taken your place among the stars but remain here in our hearts and memories for an eternity. I still remember your contagious laugh as if you have never left. You were a symbol of strength and love in our family and the bond that held us all together. We will remember and cherish those values and never forget the true meaning of love – togetherness. I have countless, fond memories over my whole life with you. You were extra special as a grandmother to me because I was too young when Lily Gordon passed away. You made up the difference and always had more love to share between your 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. You gave me the best mother and child could ask for. You took me in when I was struggling to find my path. You encouraged me to find the strength and confidence in myself and instilled the values and work ethics that are key to becoming successful. I have many memories of restoring antiques we bought at local auctions - always such a fun adventure that awakens a curiosity for the past, an appreciation for old world struggles as well as caring for and reviving old pieces of history.  You quit smoking after many years, battled cancer and struggled with the effects of intense radiation therapy . I am much happier to know you are in a much better place now. Love forever, Kyle


My mom was the best motivator, the hours we spent gardening at my house , mom was so full of ideas about where to plant this or that.  I also enjoyed the  sewing and craft projects we did together.  Irene was game for anything, learning to upholster furniture, she even took a stained glass session with me.  I could always count on mom to join an activity with me.  One of the funniest memories was when mom and I were sewing, and asked to make  a  Xmas tree skirt as a wedding gift for my sister’s friend, we were to teach my sister to sew, well Cindy went to bed, and left mom and I to complete the gift, and at one in the morning,  mom  and I  we’re dying with laughter ‘how did we get ourselves into this!’ 
Going to miss you mom! XOXO 

I remember mom always wanting help with things around the house, but mostly it was the way she would ask for it like, “do you know anybody who can fix a...” or “ you wouldn’t happen to know anybody going to the store” or one of my favourites “ do you know anybody with a car...” when mine was parked right out front. I know she’s at peace with her Lord. 

I couldn’t of asked for a more loving, caring and wonderful mother-in-law. I’m very proud that Adelle had such an amazing Nanny to look up to.  Dinners at Chicago’s were usually full of stories and laughter. We’ll miss those times together. 

So many memories made with Nanny! The most delicious cabbage rolls and pumpkin pies, holiday crafts, long walks to the centre mall to shop til we drop, family gatherings held at her house, wheel of fortune & figure skating on tv, overall the best, gosh darn grandmother there ever was. Nanny, you will be missed sincerely, but sure won’t ever be forgotten. 🤍 Love you near and dear. 

Mom was a very proud women. Her standards were high!  One of my favorite memories: sneaking off to the horse races and Casinos!  Thanks for the fun Mom!!!
