It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald "Don" Olds, a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us peacefully on August 3, 2024, at First Place in Hamilton, Ontario.
Born in Hamilton on March 25, 1935, to the late Charles and Susan Olds, Don was a man of wit and wisdom whose presence brought light into the lives of those around him. He now rejoins his parents and his brother Allan in eternal rest.
A proud alumnus of McMaster University's class of 1959, Don's sharp intellect led him to a distinguished career as a computer programmer and analyst with reputable organizations including Ontario Hydro, Bank of Nova Scotia, and Control Data. His work was not just a job but a manifestation of his passion for innovation and technology.
Don's son Allan (Toronto), sister Linda, nieces Meredith (Joel), Carolyn (Eddy), Donna (Richard), grandnieces/nephews Jack, Ava, Andrew, William, Sloan along with cherished cousins survive him. They will remember him as a source of endless knowledge and stories; an anchor in their family tree he loved to explore through his passion for genealogy.
An avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Don never missed an opportunity to enjoy America's favorite pastime. His interests were vast - from history to astronomy - revealing a man always eager to learn more about the world past and present. The arts held a special place in Don’s heart: he revelled in live theatre performances; was deeply moved by the ballet; and found solace in the soulful melodies of jazz music.
We invite family members and friends to the service at Marlatt Funeral Home, 615 Main St., (east of Sanford Ave.), Hamilton on Friday, August 9th at 11:30 AM, with visitation from 11am – 11:30am. The service will be followed by interment at Woodland Cemetery, Burlington where he will be laid to rest.
As we bid farewell to Don we know his memory lives on within each person he’s touched throughout his precious years amongst us.
