Born in Brantford, Ontario, Janet spent most of her life in Hamilton, creating a home filled with love, comfort, and countless meaningful moments.
Janet was the heart and soul of her family. Beloved wife of the late James Richard Burnside, she shared 68 wonderful years of marriage, a partnership full of devotion and unforgettable memories. She and James were often found dancing together at Legion events, where they loved to “cut a rug” on the dance floor. A devoted mother to Brad, Keith (Shirley), Gary (Barb), and Kelly (Madeline), Janet guided her children with wisdom, patience, and unwavering support. She was a treasured grandmother to Sarah (Bunnaro), Shannon, Lindsay, Brad (Heather), Brandon, Zachary, and Brittany (Roland), and a proud great-grandmother to Alexis, Aidan, Nakoa, Kaimana, Leilani, Myah, Bradley, Charlotte, Lyla, and Dean. To her family, she was irreplaceable, a steady source of comfort, strength, and love.
Janet worked for many years at Sears, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues through her dedication and friendly spirit. Her kindness extended well beyond her workplace, as she devoted many years to volunteering with the Children’s Aid Society, offering support and compassion to children who needed it most.
She lived her life with style, creativity, and curiosity. Janet loved fashion, enjoyed an eclectic mix of music, and looked forward to attending the Six Nations pow wow each summer. She embraced baking, knitting, crafting, and hosting her beloved card club, always bringing people together with warmth and a welcoming heart. She appreciated traveling and discovering new places, but nothing meant more to her than time spent with her grandchildren, passing down traditions and creating memories that will always be held close.
Janet’s kindness, warmth, and vibrant spirit touched everyone who knew her. She had a remarkable way of making people feel valued and cared for. Her family’s lives are immeasurably richer because of her, and her absence leaves a space that can never be filled. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Macassa Lodge for their exceptional care, support, and kindness over the years.
