He was the fiercely proud dad of Trenton, Kella, and Lincoln, his greatest loves and achievements. Nothing lit Jay up more than being in the stands or on the sidelines, cheering his kids on at taekwondo, football, soccer, and wrestling matches. He showed up not just to watch, but to celebrate every moment, the wins, the losses, and the laughs in between. His kids weren’t just his pride and joy, they were the reason he fought so hard through life’s challenges.
He will also be remembered with love by Kim, the mother of his children, and by the Ride-or-Die Crew who stood by his side through thick and thin. Jay had a way of collecting people wherever he went, and he leaves behind countless friends and extended family who were touched by his humour, sarcasm, wisdom, and big heart (even when he tried to hide it). His two loyal dogs, Hunter and Panda, are already missing their snuggles. To Jay, family wasn’t just blood, it was anyone he let into his circle, and once you were in, his loyalty and love were unmistakable.
It brings comfort to know that Jay is now reunited with his parents, Bill Garden and Rose Button, and his brother Dallas. While his presence will be deeply missed here, the thought of him being back with his family brings peace to those who loved him.
Jay was happiest with a good book, a cribbage board, his Jeep, and the people he loved most. He believed in mentoring others, seeing the best in people even when they couldn’t see it themselves.
He’ll be remembered for his sharp wit, endless sarcasm, and his famous “f*ck cancer” salute, which feels like the perfect way to send him off.
Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Cresmount Funeral Home on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 1 pm, with visitation from 11 am to 12:45 pm. At the request of his children, bright colour's and patterns are encouraged to be worn.
Jay’s love and well-being for his children were always his priority. In lieu of flowers, donations toward their education would be a meaningful way to honour his memory. Details will be available at the funeral home.
