Just remember my nice long talks with Jim about how to handle situations at work and in life. He was very good at managing interactions with people, when to negotiate and when to hold the line. Love, Dale

I remember when I was an intern at St. Jo's in Hamilton, I would go to Jim's in the late afternoon. He would listen and give me advice about how to handle different situations at work.  He had a different but interesting perspective from his time in management at Stelco.

I remember the long afternoons I would sit and talk to Jim at their house. I was interning at St. Jo's in Hamilton and Jim was still refereeing but was all alone after Mary died.

I don't remember in detail what we talked about. All I know was there always seemed to be plenty of interesting topics and we never ran out of words. He told me about his experiences in management at Stelco and how I might use that experience to help me manage the new territory of being a doctor.

Sorry to hear that Jim has died. He was my cousin and was very kind to me when I was a teenager. We had contact for a few years when I married my husband(who was an Anglican priest) but unfortunately, through moves, I lost touch but often thought about him.

Jim was a true gentleman.  I worked for him for many years and will always remember his work ethic, his fairness and his absolute kindness. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I too worked at Stelco under Jim's direction and learned a lot from him. He was organized, clear in his direction and stayed cool. He could get the job done while staying calm and friendly-refreshing. Thanks Jim.

Jim was my first real boss at Stelco and he had a lasting impression on my positive  work ethics. 
Truly a great man and I will grieve your loss. 

What a great gentleman.  Whether in person or on the court.   As  a Hill Park player, a referee and a neighbour of both Jim and Ian , I saw him weekly for 10+ years before  Tammy and I moved to London.  He coached me on court and in person to  be a better person.

Jim---refereed many basketball games  when I played in  High School, Senior Ball, Masters Ball and Recreation over the years. He was a gentleman and a 'one of a kind' first rate referee.  He knew the game intimately and refereed like a pro....always had time to chat and impart rules to the players during the heat of the game. He will be sadly missed.

My deepest condolences to everyone.  Jim had a major positive impact in my formative years growing up in Hamilton and I say this for many.   He was also my step father's boss at P.B. Yates Machine Company.    I remember the countless times at his house on East 17th with his eldest son Ian who was a close friend in our younger years.  Jim was a walking encyclopedia on sports.  He was a pillar in our community and will be deeply missed.  

I remember going to Mary and Jim's at 337 West Fifth, first with Al and Elsie, then with Ken, then with Jess and Morgan. Jim was always interested in anything I had to say. He made me feel special! When I was on my own in Hamilton as an intern and resident at St. Jo's,  Jim would always have time to talk. He was master of ceremonies at our wedding and Ken thinks he drove us to Niagara Falls for our honeymoon but I can't figure out how we got back.  
He was a wonderfully kind and loving support to everyone, always there when you were in need. I wish the best to all the family for losing Jim who lived a moral, fun, and loving life.
