John Philip Summerhayes

John was predeceased by his parents Frank Summerhayes and Helen Moore. John was loved like a son by his foster parents Harold (deceased) and Doris Winhold. Loving husband to Nan, father to Leslie (Wayne) Young and Stephen (Wendy) Summerhayes. Adored by his grandchildren; Rochelle (Gregory) Tyme, Matthew (Liz) Young, Mary (Phillip) Bougram, Jonathan (Chelsea) Young, Holly, Kayla and Stephen Summerhayes. Proud great-grandfather to 11 amazing great-grandchildren. Brother to Leona Summerhayes (deceased), Jackie Craig (deceased), Shirley Dawson (Nova Scotia) and Laura Klein (Manhattan, N.Y). Survived by aunt Avis Volk and many dear cousins.

John was a kind, generous and friendly man. Always wearing a big smile, you could often find him chatting with, and befriending just about anyone. He worked 35 years at Lawson Lumber and spent many years volunteering in areas such as coaching hockey, bus ministry at Bethel (30 years), Bible study at Macassa Lodge, and distributing food/clothing to those in need. Spending his most recent years attending to his great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy. A heartfelt thank you to all of the support workers who spent time caring for John these past few weeks.
