Joyce will be deeply missed by her children Wendy and Christopher (Patricia), and grandchildren Osten and Madison. Loving sister to Viv, Leslie (Joan), and Alvin "Scotty" Burnett. Devoted aunt to Lavern, Steve, Paul, Giles, Andrea, Sean, Alicia, Camille, Peta-Gaye, their spouses and several grand-nieces and nephews. Aunt-in-law to the Broomfield and Fagan family. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Caleb and Jane (nee Ferguson) Burnett, her much missed husband of 53 years, Alvin (2021), her beloved sister Olive "Tott" (1986) and her husband William (1993), and her dear brother Astley (2023) and his wife Mable, and Scotty's wife Etta (2020).
In 1962, having completed her training, Joyce applied to a job posting for a Registered Nurse at the Henderson Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. Joyce was hired and moved to Canada as an adventure. She worked at the Henderson, now Juravinski, for 34 years until her retirement in 1996. At age 12, Joyce learned to sew by watching her mother sew clothes for the family. This was a hobby she had a natural talent for, sewing almost all of her clothes, including her formal gowns, and sewed for her children, husband, several family members and friends. Joyce was a whiz in the kitchen, making gourmet meals and fine desserts. Since 1962, Joyce was a committed member of Chalmers Presbyterian Church, now amalgamated with Trinity, serving on the board of managers as president of the fundraising committee. She was also the president of the Canadian Bible Society Hamilton Branch. Joyce was quiet, kind, and generous, never turning anyone away who asked for help. Above all, she was a Christian, called by the Lord into everlasting life.
