Kaz was born in Poland on January 18, 1926 and came to Canada as a very young child. His journey in Canada would begin in Saskatchewan and then move to Ontario. He met and married Jenny (nee Bochenek) in Hamilton in 1951 and had two children, Christine and Stephen, with her. Sadly, Jenny passed away in 1967 leaving him to raise their two young children alone. After many years Kaz was fortunate to meet Eva who was the dear mother of Anna. Kaz and Eva married in 1983 and the two of them lived a wonderful life together until she passed away in 2019.
Kaz is deeply missed by his daughter Christine Bartley and her husband Bob from Beamsville and their two sons Warren and Matt who lost their special grandpa. Also mourning his departure is his son Stephen who was his primary caregiver for the last several years and Stephen’s wife Jenny both of whom reside in Oakville. Also, heart broken with his death is Anna Torma, his daughter by his marriage to Eva who lives in Austin, Texas.
He is fondly remembered by many friends and relatives including his sister Jean. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Charlie, John and Henry and his sister Margaret.
Kaz worked at Dofasco in Hamilton for 38 years and upon his retirement in 1989, he and Eva moved to the Hanover area to live on the 100 acre farm they had purchased. He loved to be outside working on his farm. They became actively involved in the Hanover community and made many wonderful friendships over the years. They enjoyed travelling including several amazing trips to Europe and to St Maarten, a place that held a special place in both of their hearts. Kaz had an active mind and was always exploring new interests. He loved reading, following the stock market, woodworking, dancing (he could never resist a polka or waltz) and debating politics with anyone who cared to engage him in a healthy debate on the issues of the day. He was an active member of the Tuesday Men’s Coffee Club in Hanover and together with his fellow attendees attempted to solve many of the world’s problems. The world is a better place today thanks to their efforts. His sense of humour and love of life continued to shine through even as his dementia advanced and took away a little bit more of him as each day passed.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the entire staff at Ridgeview Long Term Care Home in Hamilton and especially to Heda, Vanessa, Sarah (BSO), Rodelyn, Tina, Kenroy and Alex for the loving care they gave to Kaz in his final months. Also, special mention to the staff at the Village Retirement Community in Hanover where Kaz and Eva lived during their last 4 years together.
Cremation has taken place. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, a Private graveside service will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington, Ontario. His final arrangements were entrusted to the Markey Dermody Funeral Home in Hamilton. To honour his memory a donation to the Oakville Humane Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated as an expression of sympathy.
