He will forever be remembered by Valeria, his beloved wife/best friend of 68 years, daughter Liz (Joe), grandson Jordan, granddaughter Jessica Peixoto (Matthew) and great grandson Andre.
He was a New Year's baby, born January 1st, 1928, in Halászi, Hungary. He joined the Hungarian Army and had dreams of moving to Australia or Canada. In May of 1956 he met Valeria, the love of his life, at a park where they held dances in the small town where they worked. They danced the night away and that was the beginning of their love story. During the revolution in 1956 he asked my mother to join him on his journey to a new life. With only a few items on hand they left early in the morning and walked to the Austrian border, arriving in the dark.
During their few months stay in Austria they were married and were informed they had passage to Canada where he built a wonderful life with his family and friends in the Hungarian community. He will always be remembered for his witty sense of humour, his dedication to his loved ones and his love of life. Laszlo was able to overcome many obstacles as an immigrant and worked tirelessly to provide a future for his family. He was a faithful member of the Hungarian Church. He was President of the Hungarian Social Club in Hamilton for many years, traveling and organizing special outings and dinners for the members.
He worked many jobs until he was hired by Westinghouse/Hotpoint as a tool and die setter, where he worked, until early retirement. Papa loved to travel the world, such as Hawaii, Australia, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Cuba, Bahamas, Florida, Dominican Rep. We have fond memories of our family travels to Myrtle Beach every September for 10 years.
Other hobbies and interests included reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing chess, darts and dancing. Telling stories, and most of all making people smile and laugh is what truly defined him. He was known for his love of food, especially Mama's desserts and of course a "little shot" every visit. He was kind, caring, thoughtful and respectful. He will be dearly missed by all.
Keeping with Laszlo's wishes cremation has taken place and a Private Family Interment will take place in the Spring.
One last Cheers to you Papa. May you be at peace with all your friends and family that were waiting to welcome you.. We love you. xoxo
