Maria came to Canada in 1969 with her husband and sons to start a new life. They both worked hard to provide for their children, Maria taking care of the household while her husband worked in construction. She was a kind gentle soul. Her joys in life were caring for her family and her flower gardens especially her roses. She was an artist creating beautiful pieces of needlework, embroidery and portuguese crochet. Even through illness the devotion she had for her children and dear husband was an inspiration to all. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital and Heritage Green Nursing Home for the compassionate care given to Maria over the years and in her last days. Due to the Pandemic restrictions a private visitation for immediate family will be held at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home 1774 King Street East with funeral to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. A Memorial Mass at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and celebration of life will be planned at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario and the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Ontario Branch. She is no longer in suffering but singing with the Angels and tending the gardens in Paradise.
