With great sadness, we share that Maria Anna Catharina Bosua (née Brits), known as Marietjie to her family and Mariki to her friends in Canada, passed away December 18, 2025 at Hamilton General Hospital at the age of 68.
She was born July 11, 1957, to Hendrik and Johanna Brits in Potgietersrus, South Africa. Marietjie attended Potchefstroom University in South Africa, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Arts in Languages and Religion and pursuing a lifelong passion for teaching.
Marietjie and Arthur Bosua were married April 10,1982 and together had three children: Jeannie (1986), Arthur (1989), and Anika (1995).
She found great enjoyment and fulfillment in motherhood and loved her children dearly. The family immigrated to Canada on June 30,
2001.
Marietjie worked as a teacher throughout her life, first as an Afrikaans teacher and later preschool teacher in South Africa, then working with children with special needs in Canada. She was deeply connected and involved with her church, first at New Street CRC and later at Immanuel CRC, and will be remembered as a devoted Christian and loving member of the community. Her capacity for love was almost as big as her smile and she especially valued the many deep friendships she cultivated over the years. She continued to connect with her friends all over the world.
Marietjie is survived by her husband, Arthur; by her children, Jeannie (Beukes), Arthur (Natalie), and Anika (Stephen); by her grandchildren, Celeste and Monique; and by her siblings, Neels, Chris, Retha, Bertie, and Jeanne.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and by her siblings, Nols, Willie, Hennie, and Mel.
Marietjie will be interred in the cemetery at 681 Mud Street East, Stoney Creek, ON in a private graveside service with close family.
We invite Marietjie's family, friends, and community to attend her Memorial Service at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, 61 Mohawk Road W, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, at 11:00 EST on Monday, December 29th (6:00 p.m. in South Africa).
Refreshments and visitation will follow this service, also at the church.
The service will be livestreamed in full at https://youtube.com/live/dDyRlN6NrJc?feature=share and shared for later viewing, as well.
We would like to thank Marietjie's healthcare team for their compassion and care throughout her health journey, and her faith community for their tireless prayers and support. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hamilton District Christian High School, in support of Marietjie’s commitment to Christian education.
