She is again reunited with Fausto her loving husband of 49 years. She will be dearly missed by her children Joanne (John) Velenosi, Grace (Gary) Laufman, and Dora (Mike) Bozzo. She had an immense love for her grandchildren. Nonna will be sadly missed but joyfully remembered by Thomas, Joseph (Kailey), Melissa, Cameron, Ryan, Hope, Isabella, and Paolo. Her children and grandchildren filled her life with joy and pride. As she would often say, “Tu sei il cuore di Nonna.”
Known warmly to her family as Teodora and as Maria to her friends, Teodora will be happy to be reunited with her brothers and sister Vito, Alfonso, Marietta, Antonio, Domenico, and Ignazio. She leaves behind her brother Ugo and in-laws Antonio and Teresa Figliola. She is affectionately remembered by many nieces and nephews. Maria enjoyed many warm relationships with her family, friends, and neighbours, whom she socialized with daily, and welcomed all to her home.
Maria was born in Roseto Valfortore, Foggia, Italy and emigrated to Canada in 1952. Like many new immigrants, she adapted to the Canadian lifestyle but always remained true to her Rosetani traditions and heritage. She worked at Susan Shoes for many years until she married in 1959, and then stayed at home to raise her children. Maria taught herself to sew and with that talent returned to the workforce sewing for a textile company until she retired to take care of her grandchildren. Maria unselfishly gave everything she had to her family and grandchildren. She was the matriarch of the family, a selfless, loving, and nurturing heart, always attentive to the well-being of her family and friends before her own. She was
a wonderful cook and expressed her love by preparing delicious meals for all to enjoy. She always made sure no one left her home hungry. We can only hope to continue the lessons of hospitality and generosity that she taught us. Our mother was a beautiful woman, with an ultra-bright smile and loved by all. She led an exemplary life of faith. She taught us lessons of love, hard work, determination, and courage until her final days. Although life will never be the same without her, we feel so blessed to have been part of it
and especially to have known her unconditional love. A special thanks to the staff of the Chartwell Willowgrove Long Term Care Residence (Old Mill) for their tender care during her short stay.
