So happy mama and I visited Pani Krzywda at her home and then when she moved into the retirement home on Main St before mama encountered all her health issues . They recalled their life at the Nazi barracks after the war when it was used for the Polish people after being released from German slave labour and prisoner of war camps. It was fascinating how they met up again in Hamilton at our corner store on Balmoral .I especially enjoyed the pictures Pani Krzywda showed us . Such memorable visits.

Maria Krzywda was born in Mosarz, Poland on March 22,1923. Her home town was taken over so her family moved to Glebokie where she spent her childhood . (1931-1942). In 1942 some German soldiers took her away from her home. She was told to pack a small bag and was taken to a school overnight. The next day she was put on a transport train to Frankfurt, Germany and then to Wiesbaden a week later. There she worked on a farm for three years for Herstein family. She worked amongst bombs and bullets at the age of 19 for free and little food. She slept in unfit cold places with little access to warm clothes. 
In 1945-1948 she lived in army barracks at a DP camp in Wiesbaden where she met Tata. They both survived the Second World War. Mama told a story how he got a blanket from the American army and he had it dyed and made into a warm coat for her. In 1948, on February 8th they married and stayed for a while in the displaced persons camp in Halbron. 
In August 1948 she went to England by herself..she said she was single. She travelled to Bolton and she stayed with Janina Tokarski who she met on the way to England. They stayed in at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jules. She got a job at a spinning mill and spoke to her manager asking if he would give her husband a job. He agreed and and brought him to England. They eventually  bought a home and started their family.  Then a new adventure began when they decided to move to Canada.

My heart is hurting that I won't see u again for a while... knowing that your in heaven reunited with our Dziadziu ....the love of your life after so many years makes me smile. Your together again.
