She began her life at a mere 2 1/2 pounds in rural Nova Scotia during the Great Depression. She overcame many hardships and challenges in her life. She was a kind, loving and forgiving person. An example to us all.
Marie moved from Cape Breton to Hamilton in 1950. It was there that she met the love of her life, Albert. All it took was one dance and they knew they were meant to be together forever.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and family. Marie will be greatly missed by her children, Barry (Lei), Colleen, Michael, James (Teena), Anita and Patrick, as well as her 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Our family would like to express their gratitude to the Palliative Support Team, the dedicated Personal Support Workers and Nurse Practitioners, including her Granddaughter Tasha Bilau, who provided her with care and dignity. We would also like to thank Dr. Kerry Beal, who helped make all these supports happen flawlessly.
Marie's presence will be greatly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Teena O'Keeffe, who were honoured to have had Marie a major part of their lives and their home for the last 6 years.
Visitation will be held at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton on Thursday, September 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
