Mary Cizmar was born on March 1, 1928, in Maly Ruskov in Slovakia. She was the cherished wife of her late husband George and the loving mother of George Jr., Magdalene and Ken (Leigh). She leaves behind her grandchildren, Daniel and Julia, who were a source of great happiness. She was the daughter of Michael and Maria Salontai.
Happy memories of village life stayed with her throughout her life, and she treasured the customs and traditions of her heritage. She met and married her husband George in 1948, and they shared a wonderful, loving relationship for 59 years. After coming to Canada, Mary developed many long-lasting friendships within the Slovak community and with her neighbours. She cherished her friends, and they were always a source of great joy to her. She especially enjoyed her time with the Home and School Association, helping with school events and becoming a member of the community. Mary was always involved in activities at The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where she helped with events over many years. She will be remembered as a deeply warm-hearted person, always happy with her family and when socializing with her friends. Mary loved celebrating family milestones such as birthdays and anniversaries. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Cusimano for the excellent care which he provided for Mary over many years. Thanks also go out to the staff at Queen’s Garden LTC for their wonderfully professional and compassionate care.
