Mate Sprajc

Passed away peacefully at Juravinski Hospital on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in his 88th year. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years Zorka Sprajc. Loving tata of Anica (Ivo Vranic) of Croatia, Katica (Ivica Devcic), and Nada (Ivan Mesic). Cherished dida of Vlatka (Sylvio), Jean (Jim), Zlatko (Marie), Diana (Joe), late John (Nicole) , John (Barbara), and Matija (Tonka). Loving great-grandfather of Bianca, Alex, Samantha, Marcus, Evan, John Jr. (LJ), Erik, Ivan, Katija, and Maximir. He will be missed by his sister Olga Mesic and her family who live in Croatia. He will be fondly remembered by many family and friends in both Canada and Croatia. Mate was born in Krizpolje, Lika, Croatia. He served in the Croatian army in World War 2. He moved to Canada in 1975. He valued family and was a very hard-working man. The family would like to thank Heritage Green Nursing Home, the ER and ward F5 at Juravinski Hospital for their compassion and special care. Visitation will be at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME (905-547-1121), 1774 King St. E. (at Kenilworth Ave.) on Friday, February 1, 2013, from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm. Vigil prayers at 7:15 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 9:00 am with interment to follow in Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. Donations in honour of Mate can be made to Holy Cross Croatian Church or the Croatian Centre at Green Mountain Road.
