Matija "Mato" Boldin

Loving father and father-in-law of Mike Boldin (Claudia) and Mary Jacome da Costa (Paul). Proud and generous Deda of Anthony, Juliana, Adam, and Ryan. Dear brother of Franje of Germany and brother-in-law of Nikola Grsic. Predeceased by his brothers Ivan, Alojz, Tone and sister Ana, all of Croatia. Mato will be dearly missed by family and friends in Canada, United States, Germany, and Croatia.

He was born in Jurovski Brod, Croatia, on September 22, 1931. In 1957, he escaped communism into Austria, and arrived in Canada in 1958. He worked various jobs until finding a 30-year career at Dofasco (Arcelor-Mittal). He married Zlata Grsic at Holy Cross Church on February 3, 1962. Together, they enjoyed entertaining friends and family, card games, gardening, and travel.

Thank you to doctors, nurses, and staff at Blackadar Continuing Care for making his last few months comfortable.

Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 5-9 pm. Vigil Prayers at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, 1883 King Street East, on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11 am. Interment at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery, Stoney Creek.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Cross Church would be greatly appreciated.
