Beloved husband of the late Gertrud (2017) and remembered fondly by Harold (Alexandra), Arlene, Mark and Timothy Chatterton. Mike and Gertrud immigrated to Canada after World War II and despite many hardships before and after arriving in their adopted country, they worked hard to build a good life and raise a family. Over the years, Mike and Gertrud developed many close friendships with other immigrants like them and we have many memories of celebrations, holidays and weekend visits filled with much laughter, boisterous conversations and, of course, ethnic delicacies we shared with our Canadian “family”.
Following a long career at the Oakville Ford Assembly Plant, Mike took woodworking courses and also taught himself to become a skilled craftsman, learning how to weave decorative willow baskets which he sold at many craft fairs in Southern Ontario. Always active, he spent many hours in the pool at local aquatic centers and continued taking his daily walk well into his 90s. Mike wanted to remain as independent as possible and his strong will saw him through many years. Never one to give up or be afraid of hard work, Mike’s determination lasted to his final day and was a life lesson to everyone who knew him. We thank Maxwell, his long-time PSW from CBI Home Health and the many other PSWs from Bayshore Health Care who were so dedicated to helping him at home. Our special thanks also to the wonderful staff on Unit M3 at Juravinski Hospital who did so much for Mike during his final hospital stay.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 5th at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hamilton Cemetery. Guests are welcome to join via Livestream and leave condolences for the family by visiting, www.cresmountfennellchapel.com
