Passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022. Marie was predeceased by her husband Harper in 2021. She was a devoted mom to Kelly (Norm), Rob (Nancy) and Denice. She was also a loving grandma to Matthew, Sam, Jonathan, Chris and Kyle. Marie will be missed by many, including her friends Lorraine, Ruby and Marie, her sister-in-law Audrey McIsaac and several nieces and nephews.
Marie was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and moved to Hamilton at the age of 21. She was a long time employee at Robinson’s Department Store on James Street, where she made and nurtured several lifelong friendships. After retirement, Marie volunteered for over 20 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital and was a recipient of the Ontario Volunteer Award in 2016.
Marie will be remembered as a patient, generous, positive, optimistic and forgiving person, who always found the best in everyone and made the best of every situation. She was a social butterfly, who loves lunches with her friends, classes at Sackville Senior Centre, attending her grandson’s hockey, soccer and baseball games and meeting new friends on her many travels. She was an animal lover and a wonderful cook, who was blessed with an amazing memory and great sense of humour. She will be missed by so many of us who enjoyed her heartfelt talks over a cup of tea.
We would like to thank Dr. Ruth Morris and staff, Dr. Robert Yang, Dr. Jason Archibald, Dr. Jesse Solomon, Nurse Practitioner Gillian, Chaplain Femke and PSW Claudine from Bayshore. Extra special thanks goes to the excellent nurses and all members of the Palliative Care Team on 3 East at St. Peter’s Hospital for their unwavering kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hamilton SPCA.
