December 19, 1926 - January 16, 2016
Sadly we announce that our beloved dad Rudy passed away peacefully at the age of 89, with his children by his side on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington. Returned at last to the loving arms of his cherished wife and our wonderful mom, Lillian (July 2, 1996). Dad was the dedicated father of daughter Darlene Choma, son Larry Savelli and his wife Margaret, daughter Sandra Savelli and her husband Jim Berry. Proud Grampa of Lisa Choma, Laura Obrovac (Mike), Michael Savelli, Matthew Savelli, David Andreatta (Wendy), Kristina Osburn (Nick). Much loved great-grandfather of Jessica and Rebecca Obrovac, Owen and Lucas Andreatta, Lily and Ben Osburn. Rudy is the last of the children of Romeo Savelli (March 31, 1968) and Palmina Domenichetti (October 31, 1968) a proud and hard-working couple who immigrated to Hamilton from Italy in 1906. Rudy is predeceased by his brothers Dominic Savelli (Mary Silvi-deceased), Reno Savelli, George Savelli, and sisters Mary DeMarchi Speranzini (John "Turk" Demarchi-deceased and Angelo Speranzini-deceased) and sister Florence Mazza (Evan Mazza-deceased). He is survived by his sister-in-law Dorothy Savelli as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was blessed with a wonderful and fulfilling life, having proudly worked at Stelco in the 10-9 and 12-10 Mills, until he retired in 1985 after 42 years of service. He then became actively involved as the President of the Halton Condo Corporation #332 at Oaklands Green in Aldershot where he resided. He leaves many close friends and neighbours there who greatly appreciated his hard work and loyalty. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Cardiologist, Dr. Sanaz Piran of Oakville who was unwavering in her genuine care and concern for Dad. Thank you also, to our visiting palliative home nurse Sharon, and to Petrina and her team on 4 East at Joseph Brant who helped us keep Dad comfortable and at peace until the very moment. Please join us in celebrating a life well lived. Visitation will be at Markey -Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth), Hamilton, on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 287 Plains Road East in Burlington on Wednesday, January 20th at 10 a.m. Dad will then be laid to rest beside Mom at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery following the service. In memory of Rudy, the family respectfully asks you to consider a donation to The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Alzheimer Society of Canada, or charity of your choice. Dad and Mom are probably organizing a Polenta making party in heaven now! Rest in peace, Dad and Mom. You are loved and never forgotten. Always in our hearts. Love, your family.
