Sarah was proud to be born in Belfast, Ireland and moved to Canada at the age of 8, where she settled with her parents in Hamilton on Fairfield Avenue. Throughout that time, and with her avid involvement in the 58th Legion Pipe Band, Sarah met lifelong friends who she considered family. In 1966 Sarah married the love of her life, and husband of 55 years, John Montgomery. Sarah and John raised 3 children together, Johnny (Predeceased), Joanne (Greg) and James (Marci). With a strong passion for helping others and teaching children, Sarah began her career with the Hamilton School Board as a volunteer lunch monitor and worked her way up to become an educational assistant. Sarah was also an active member of Trinity Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, Youth Group, Choir and more. Perhaps something Sarah was most proud of was being the loving Nana to Sarah, Jordan, Tess and Emma. When not spending time with family and friends, Sarah loved to travel, having traveled to many destinations throughout her life. One of her favourite recent activities was cruising the Caribbean with her husband. Her favourite cruise was a New Year cruise with her entire family. Our Mum/Nana touched all who knew her. Her smile and vibrant personality could light up any room. She will be missed beyond measure by family, her many great friends, and neighbours. She adored each and every one of you. The family would like to thank the Hamilton General ICU for their compassionate care.
Visitation at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 11 am.
One of Sarah’s greatest gifts was knowing when to reach out and spread her kind and caring ways. In lieu of flowers please pay some kindness forward to friends, family, neighbours or a charitable donation of your choosing.
