On Tuesday, July 24th just before 4:30pm, we lost another “Rockstar” when Steve Robinson breathed his last at Juravinski hospital in Hamilton. Steve was a stubborn lad, so full of life and vigor that he fought against even that hospital bed (which restrained his freedom), leading to his great escape attempt and ultimately his passing. He longed to be amongst the woods where he spent so much of his childhood and adult life. In the bush, he was free to do things on his own time and on his own terms.
Steve loved a good story, and I’m sure many of you have stories to tell about him, too. He attracted strange people and events, which always made for the best conversations, leaving us always wondering how one is so lucky to have so much to say about their day. While most of us just recall the monotony of our daily routine, his was exciting, and even if it wasn’t, he saw it that way and told it just the same.
Steve was blessed with 4 children: Stuart; Sean; Erin and J.R, and with them a few in-laws were thrown into the mix: Hannah; Abner and Melissa. His 13 grandchildren (rabbits got nothing on us) would light up his day every time they entered the room or spoke to him on the phone. His family meant so much to him. Even the smallest moments became the biggest memories.
Now you can’t talk about Steve without talking about his circle. Mitch(elle), Danny, and Tommy were like a life line to Steve. His motley crew were there for him through thick and thin. They were the A-team, going through life taking on the big missions but at the same time, they knew not to take life too seriously.
Being the only boy amongst three sisters, Sharon, Ann & Jan, Steve learned the hard way what girl power was all about. He now follows 2 of his sisters, Sharon and Ann, as well as his parents, Bill and Betty, as he ascends into the afterlife, in the bush. Jan survives to tell the wonderous tales of the Robinson clan, of which there are many, ask anyone who knows. A Celebration of Life will take pace at Firth's Celtic Pub, 543 Upper James St., on Saturday, August 18th from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Steve made to the Canadian Cancer Society Would be greatly appreciated.
