An avid reader and historian, Stewart took an active role in the community with his interest in Canadian aviation and support of the Warplane Heritage Museum. Stewart spent hours through the course of his life building model airplanes. He earned his private pilot's license in 1985 and realized a lifelong ambition to own his own airplane, a Cessna 150. Stewart and family spent summers at the cottage, which he especially enjoyed after he retired from Canadian Canners in 1983. Stewart's many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss his entertaining stories and laughter. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter's Residence at Chedoke for their wonderful and patient care and support. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Alzheimer Society. A gathering for family and friends will be held at MARKEY DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King St. E. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. until 1 p.m. A celebratory toast in honour of Stewart's life and memory will be offered at 11:15 a.m.
