Valerie is predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Earl Parker (2021). Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to family and community.
A devoted mother to Cheryl (Guy), cherished grandmother to Leah (Brent), Telah (Luke), Robert and Alannah (Evan) and great-grandmother to her little sweeties; Bryce, Nash, Layne, Parker and Liam. Valerie’s warmth and strength shaped generations. Valerie was predeceased by parents Archibald and Sadie MacMillian and sister Edith Taylor. Survived by her loving sister-in-law, Ann Tolman. Loved by many nephews and nieces from Nova Scotia and Ontario and lifelong friend Eleanor DeWolfe in Nova Scotia.
Valerie loved travelling to Nova Scotia, where her childhood home still stands strong. She had an unmatched talent in the kitchen — always ready with fresh cookies, homemade apple pie and could can just about anything. A fabulous cook and gracious host, her home was always full of love and the comforting scent of something baking.
She began her career in Nova Scotia as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse at the age of 17 before serving with the government. After marrying the love of her life, she and Earl moved to Ontario, where Valerie later retired from CIBC in 1989.
Valerie was deeply active in her community, especially through her church, Pioneer Memorial and the Quota Club of Hamilton.
Special thanks to everyone at Macassa whom made Val’s stay dignified and comfortable, your kindness and care goes without words.
She often said, with a spark of humor, “This getting old is for the birds” — a sentiment that speaks to her wit and spirit.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
