Affectionately known as “Peppy” or “Gladwin” in his various circles of friends and family, passed away at approximately 11:50 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario as a result of cardiac arrest. Born to parents Babzin and the late Alan Armogan Veeran on August 7, 1957 in the village of Bush Lot, Corentyne, Guyana, he grew up in Nigg Settlement-Belvedere, Berbice before immigrating to Hamilton in 1988. He studied at Guyana Sugar Corporation’s Technical Training Centre (Port Mourant), which led to his role as field mechanic at the Albion Sugar Estate (Guyana), and eventually attended Mohawk College, resulting in his career as an automotive mechanic in Canada. He is survived by grandson Joshua Moonsammy (born 2:21 AM, April 9, 2015); Babzin Veeran (mother); Monica Moonsammy (wife); sons Andy and Simon; Devi Moonsammy (daughter-in-law); Navin and Leon Veeran (brothers); sisters: Annette Sydney, Christine Rupram, Meena Harilall; four nieces; six nephews and a large extended family spread across Canada, Guyana, the United Stated of America, England and the West Indies.
