There are no words to describe the emptiness left by Wally’s passing, but his love, kindness, and the memories he gave us continue to speak for him.

Walter was more than a friend; he was family. He cared deeply for my family and me, always making sure we were supported and never alone. His humor brought laughter, and his heart was generous, brave, and deeply devoted to the people he loved.

Because of him, this place felt like home. His legacy lives on in every life he touched and every smile he inspired.

To his family, please accept our deepest condolences. Walter will live on forever in our hearts.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. It is a loss we may know is coming but we can never expect the magnitude of the pain.

May you all be left with wonderful memories to help ease the hurt, and trust in knowing he is no longer suffering. May he rest in peace.

Being the youngest of three my brother Wally and sister Lynn were 1 year apart. They had a beautiful sibling bond and established their territory before I arrived 7 years later. As a result, I was the recipient of constant teasing, blackmail, and reminders that there weren’t  photos of me because I was adopted. There must be something in all brother’s DNA that causes them to terrorize and traumatize younger sisters. From turning the lights out and making spooky sounds, blackmailing me to take on his household chores, flipping my raft over at the beach and holding me underwater, and dangling worms in my face while fishing. 
Wally earned the affectionate title “Huncwot” from Grandma and Aunty Jean for his mischievous antics. There are so many stories which awarded him such a title; pulling down the Christmas tree as a toddler; driving his metal push-pedal airplane into the neighbour’s boy; purchasing 2 white mice from the pet store vowing they were both male, after litters of baby mice our parents were not amused. Breaking his leg while riding an unauthorized skateboard after several prior warnings from Mom; building a secret bicycle from parts with Dave Fulton, only to witness Dad and his hacksaw ruin his creation.
Wally started to warm up to me, and I was able to join in playing touch football and baseball with the neighbourhood kids. I remember the amazing Burl Ives Christmas album he bought me, I think I can still sing all of the songs. He eventually began to tolerate and humor me, introducing me to his passion for hockey and his favourite Boston Bruins team.  I saved up my summer job money and bought tickets for the Jethro Tull “Thick as a Brick” concert at Maple Leaf Gardens, and despite being seen in public with his younger sister we had fun. For those of you who had a connection with Wally you affectionately feel my pain…. But I hope you always remember and feel the love. Always in my heart, Kathy

We are so sorry for the loss of Wally.  He was always so friendly around the neighbourhood.  His sense of humour and funny stories will remain in our memories.  We send our love and sympathy to his family, who are always so supportive.  You are all in our thoughts,

My sincere condolences on the passing of Wally. He was a lovely man and you both were amazing friends to our friend Lea. I was very grateful to have met you both. May all the wonderful memories you have bring you some comfort.

Knew Wally for over 60 years (was there when he broke his leg skateboarding, I don't think we were even teenagers yet), played hockey, and fished together. He was a good man, rest easy my friend. We'll have a beer together when we meet again.
